Java Encryption Engineer

DATAllegro is a venture capital funded startup in southern Orange County producing patent pending, high performance data warehouse appliances.

The Java Encryption Engineer will have both architecture and programming skills, being able to take requirements to a working module. The position will be responsible for working on integration of DATAllegro encryption technology in Ingres. The role will be concerned with designing an interface and communication with our Key Management service, along with providing the keys to our Ingres databases. This role will work closely with both the Director of R&D and the core appliance team in order to integrate encryption support into all modules of the appliance, including management of encryption metadata and usability within the appliance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assume a Java engineering position providing design and coding of software solutions.
  • Proactively communicates status reports, issues and areas of potential risk to management.
  • Contributes to the development and enhancement of DATAllegro methods, techniques, processes and practices.
  • Follow company guidelines and processes related to software development.
  • Provide strategic vision to help lead design down an architectural path that is consistent with DATAllegro Appliance vision.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of the company’s technology.
  • Responsible and capable to work on customers production machines where data integrity and confidentiality is important.
  • Provide R/D ideas and requirements
  • Implement complete software features including creating and performing unit testing.
  • Constantly work towards an error free product including working with QA and fixing issues even in other people’s code.
  • Strong problem solving, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Produce use cases and architecture models describing proposed design.
  • Capable of implementing features/fixes within a wide variety of DATAllegro software modules
  • Proficient in designing performance architectures as well as tuning these architectures.
  • Implement a highly reliability and highly redundant solution.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Expertise with Windows, Unix and Linux operating systems
  • Strong Object Oriented (OO) skills
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in Java, focus in J2SE
  • C/C++ “real world” experience preferred
  • Java integration experience preferred, SOA, etc.
  • Experience with encryption algorithms like AES, and key management preferred
  • Parallel processing experience (multiple servers processing but different data, not just threading)
  • Exposure to data warehousing including architecture, data modeling, business intelligence and ETL.
  • Ability to problem solve under tight deadlines

  • Familiarity with known DBMS Servers (Ingres, Postgres, Oracle, SQL Server, DB2, etc.)
  • Knowledge of common open source frameworks, like Hibernate and Spring
  • Ability to architect as well as implement on tight time schedules
  • Proficient in UML design and design tools
  • Ability to work alone, or as a team member, in challenging, innovative technology
  • Good written and verbal communications
  • Bachelor degree in a related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills may be acquired. Masters degree a plus.
  • Previous consulting and/or start-up company experience desired.
